Anyone else with an abnormal white cell count?

Good morning everyone,

 

I went in for my annual check up and my lab work came back showing an abnormally high white cell count ( over 15) and since I did not have a cold or the flu at the time I had the lab work done, I am wondering if it is the RA and if anyone else also has this?

 

On the ironic side, I have high cholestorol and I'm vegetarian! smurf

It's typical for an RA pt. to have a white count. Unless you go on immunosuppressants and then ya get a real low count.
Given the time of day also...the white count rises normally biologically.
Or you could have indeed been fighting off something & not know it.
When in doubt...I would repeat it in a week or 2 if it bothers you.
Also...it is still within normal limits lab to lab to have a margin of error of 1 to 4 points above "normal". 2 or 3 or 4 points above normal could be a "normal high".
I would take a temperature for a few days & see if you run any fevers.
Did the doc mention anything in regards to a follow up?

How are you today?

Yes, I will need to have it repeated.  I have had several surgeries over the past few years and whenever they would do lab work, my count would always flag as high.  This is just the first time anyone has mentioned it.

When I had my lab work done, it seemed to have been in the middle of a "flare", so who knows smurf ....I am sure it is the whole arthritis issue, and why I always feel so puney.
