Well, I got a call from my OM at work who informed me not to come to work if I am still on crutches... is this really okay?  Is it even legal?  Then she said she would talk to one of the docs I work with to find out if it is okay for me to come to work.... I HAVE A RELEASE!  So, I called her back and said forget it... I won't bring the darned crutches in.... don't know how I am going to make it through the day ... Is there a written law that says they cannot do this?  Or is it really okay?  I can't afford to be off work this long.

I think it may depend on the type of job that you have. When I broke my foot, I was working in the ER. They would not allow me to work while on crutches. I was told that it was a safety issue.

If I had been disabled, I would have been able to use crutches, as that is covered under the ADA. However, this was the result of an injury, so I wasn't sure I could fight it. I looked at it as a chance to have an extended vacation.

I hope that you can workout some type of arrangement with your boss so that you can get back to work ASAP.

I was going to take a temporary change and work as a receptionist with less on the feet time and less moving around.... doesn't matter I told her to put me on the regular schedule as a tech... and if surgery becomes necessary then so be it..

Hey Theresa, what is your job? Did you go back to work? So sorry you've had to deal with this.. you would think it would be discriminatory, but like Ides said, if they cite a "safety issue" then I guess not.. please let us know what happened.. thinking of you..

I go back Monday I think. Waiting to hear from the big boss. I don't think I should go without the crutches so I am going to talk to the ortho tomorrow after my Rheumy appt. Maybe they can give me some type of walking cast/brace or something for support because hobbling is only aggravating the RA. Guess I will pick up a note just in case I can't go back to work so they don't use this against me.

You definitely need to get a note.. what time is your appt? Hang in there and keep us posted...
