Ladies -- Remicade & Funky Periods

Just curious, any of you ladies on Remicade and having periods, find that your periods are getting funky? More bleeding, less bleeding, pain, etc? I had my period last week (a humdinger) and was finished by the weekend. I had my infusion on Tuesday and I've been spotting since Wednesday night. Nothing serious, just irritating. I had period issues when I was on Enbrel and when I called, menstrual issues were not a side effect - I have to "assume" that Remicade is the same (although I just hate to assume anything nowadays).

By the way, I also think my period was the reason I went into one heck of a flare the 2 weeks prior. They've been just awful the past few months.

Your thoughts?

I agree with you.. I'm not on Remicade, but I am on Enbrel.. and holy lord.. since I started Enbrel.. MAN-O-MAN has my periods been wicked... not regular... Now that I think of it... my last flare started the day before I "started"... hhmm...

Now you have me thinking... I'm gonna have to look at my calendar...

Hey there. The reason I think my period caused my flare, was as soon as I started, the flare started to ease up. Was fine once my period was over. I never noticed that before.

I remember when I called Enliven a few months after I started the Enbrel (a couple of years ago) and noticed that my periods were horrid. The nurse said that it wasn't on the list of side effects, they hadn't had any "complaints" but that they would start an "anecdotal" file for this... I wonder if they did and how many women have called since.

If it's not one thing, it's another...goodness gracious, can I take a time out from all of this??? LOL

my rhuemmy and gyn both told me that my med didnt effect my cycles but i disagree. i am on mtx and i havent had a period since september! i am one happy mama! i am hoping for early menapause induced by mtx, my therory! sry ladies i feel for u all! but i cant stop dancing in the streeets over this one! lol any other mtx induce menopauses out there? sry for the hyjack of the post but i figure i will kill 2 birds with one posting lol

ooh, this one is right up my alley!  my last period??? holey toledo, THE BLEEDING!!!! confused confused confused

it was almost to a point where i thought i might have needed help or something the bleeding was so bad.  and clots!  it would just gush out & soak through maximum security protection (you catch my drift).

the worst i have had, not necessarily painful...but the bleeding was very scarey.  in all honesty i thought i may have been having a hemorrhage.

 

i'm not sure if it's the Remicade because i have been on that since Oct. & this never happened...but this is the 1st one since starting the 6MP (i think that has something to do with it).

 

i don't get freaked out by much...but this did it.

okay...i think i may have a good answer to this little phenomena we have here, LOL.

 

i told my GI guy about the bleeding ordeals (geesh, bad enough talkin' buttholes all the time to em' never mind this! lol).  alright, he's a smart cookie...a real academia.

 

his thoughts:

Remicade & placebo were equal in response to menstrual bleeding.

However...the difference is, that these TNF meds and Remicade and all INCREASE the vasculature to the GI/GU systems when healing & reducing inflammation...thus, heavier flows when you get your period.

 

heck...i buy it!  sounds right on to me!

 

as long as your platelets & coagulation were alright...it's just gonna be another pain in the arse thing we must go through.
