Hubby has weak and sore thumb...arthritis?

Hi. I am new to this forum, but usually hang out in Anxiety.

My husband (age 38) has been having trouble gripping things, sometimes dropping them. He says his thumb is weak and also sore from time to time. Could this be arthritis?

Yes, it could be. I have osteoarthritis of the CMC joint [that's the one at the base of the thumb]. Does your husband do repetitve type activities or work that involves that thumb? That increases the likelihood of having a problem. I have had injections of cortisone into the joint and the rheumy had the occupational therapist build a special splint for that thumb. It has helped me avoid joint replacement.
