dehumidifiers? Does anyone have one? Do they help?

I have RA and I suffer badly in the humidity. My DH thinks it is a good idea to get a dehumidifier in the house. The concerns are:

1. Will it help?

2. What size and brand should we get?

I hate to invest thousands and discover that it really doesn't help. That I am going to hurt no matter what we do.

I don't have a dehumidifier now, but I did once upon a time. I was living in a basement apartment and it could get quite damp down there. I loved having it and used it all the time.

I don't have any idea what types are now available, but I got a fairly small one at Sears, so it was probably a Kenmore and it was under $200. I just looked at the models they have available now and they are comparable, except that they have larger reservoirs than what I had. If you're looking at thousands, I'd imagine that you're looking to add something into your home a/c & heating system. Maybe get one of these smaller units to see if it's going to be worth a big investment.
