yes mothers day was a dining experience and everyone enjoyed.  the family actually helped!  i also got a great card from my kidos, i must share as even though they nver say it all year they do understand my pain and limitations to some degree!

got my enbrel today in the mail.... i go friday to learn how to take the injection.  i hope it doesnt hurt?! does it? 

howdy to everyone out in TV land...........  thanks for being there and sharing ur lives with me.  i do read many posts and either laugh cry or pray for all of u. 

well i am honestly so tired and in pain that i am  gonna go lay down and rest~

Hi Momto3.

I haven't increased the mtx yet.  I take it on Friday, tomorrow, so I will be increasing it from 7.5 mg to 15 mg (a big jump, if you ask me).  If I'm tired, at least it will be the weekend.

I'm also prepared to up my folic acid.  I remember when I first started mtx at 7.5 mg, my body went through an initial adjustment period and I did develop a few mouth ulcers.  My rheumy told me yesterday that you can't take too much folic acid, so if I start getting mouth ulcers again with the 15 mg, I'll just double the folic acid too.

Hope everyone is doing better.  I'm still sore, but the tramadol I was switched too seems to be working a bit better than the ultracet.

G'moanin'.  Lost ball game by 1 run last night.  Kids were happy (they don't know come here from sick 'em).  They had fun and that's all that matters. 

I don't have anything planned this weekend and that feels so good.  Sleep in tomorrow, sip coffee, read newspaper...  We've had so many wedding showers, weddings, funerals, etc.  Of course, hubby will have a roping to go to somewhere.  I may even go watch him this weekend.  It is hard for me to be a spectator.  I want to jump on a horse and say, "Yeehaw and Hi Ho Silver".  A trail ride would be a good thing for me, slow and easy, but my trail horse is 24 years old now and she's not feeling any better than I am.  Just like me, she has her good days and bad days. 

Well. I hear hubby roaming the halls looking for me.  Gonna stear him back into bed.  Have a great weekend, Everyone.  Boo

to mommy bear that a massage might be in order was greeted with a soudn unlike one I have heard this side of Jurassic Park. II was only loooking for shoulders and arm!!! I really do hope that Yal, el, ducky, erin boo and the rest are improved for the weekend and that the trail ride sounds a good idea - make mine a donkey please. I remember when I was a kid and we played cowboys and indians therer would always be arguments about who would be who and I always wanted to be the horse!!! A palomino to boot. Some say I was a strange child, I don't know why. Well aks yourself the question, how many horses got killed in the films? At least I got to stay on my feet in the games.

What's Pimlico? A racetrack?We get the US racing on satellite here but it takes me all my time to pick winners in the domestic racing. Do you have jumps racng over  there?

I read a wonderful description of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill by Hunter Thompson - I laughed til I cried. He's my favourite US writer adn I have lots of his books - not to everybodys taste mind. I'm also trying to get into Walt Whitman - another acquired taste I believe.

Does anybody outt there know Alexandria old town va? I stayed there 4 years ago for a week - fell in the potomac - don't ask why, iit's embarassing. Even today. Found a ggreat music bar the laughing lizard lounge -I'm hoping to revisit in july - but not the potomac. Not a good idea. No.

Who have the sabresgot this weekend Yal? Tthe bear cub has managed to download lots of hockey games from the web but thee seems to be little hockey going on and lots of wrestling doubling as ice dancing and waving at each other - you can just imagine them saying 'after you, do hurt your knuckles on my helmet' and the other guy resonding ' not at all chap, after you and do feel free to use this stick I found lying around". Or some such words. It makes great entertainment and every now and then they throw a puck on the ice for show. Great fun.

I sympathise with the dude who has a thing about needles - I avoid them like the plague and I don't nkow how I would cope if I wasa diabetic or had to self inject like Yalinda. I'd want the numbing cream all over mybody.

And as for the squirts, well we do dicuss and nform about some really sweet subjects here don't we. You'd never find the pd-ers talking about body functions n the same way but that's why I'm over here and not over there most of the time.

We can buy these amazing capsules n the pharmacy here that stop the squits withng half an hour but there again they then stop everything for days - one door closes etc  

I've only ben home a couple of hours and I mis the sea already - I used to live in Devon and I still miss it 25 years on. Anybody out there live near the sea? It would appear that the bebar cub has gone vegetarian while I was away and now we all have dfferent meals time for the gruelI'll post back later and hey Ducky is there any way of posting seaside landscapes?

Bear, I don't have a mother in law living....but good luck with that. No matter how "lovely" someone is, it's a change of life in your house (oh, sorry - cave!) - especially since you have to find new dwellings to accomodate her.

Okay, I need HELP! I'd write this in a new thread, but I think everyone might read this faster than checking out new threads - upon the other ailments of this flu thing, my throat is KILLING ME!!!! It is a giant lump that not only kills to swallow, but is hurting my ear severely as well as my neck, jaw, and shoulder - which ultimately gives me a horrid headache! What gives? Hot drinks barely help. Cold drinks make it slightly worse. I did get some relief last night for about 2 hours after I had swallowed some Motrin, then added an icy hot patch on my neck and shoulder. It took 2 hours for the 2 of them to kick in together, but did eventually give me some relief. I thought after 2 days it would start getting better, but it has not yet....I really can't afford the time or money to go to urgent care/emergency room, especially if it'll go away. It doesn't feel like strep or anything, just a horrid lump on the right side of my throat. When my son was sick, he did wake up crying a couple of mornings saying his neck/throat were kiling him, but throughout the day he never said it continued to hurt and now he says it's gone.....I guess I need to wait it out, but I'm miserable and want to sleep more! ANY suggestions on getting relief?

Boo....gee....that IS a tough desicion, watching hubby clean out stalls or go out with sis....decisions, decisions. ***

ya might score with just a phone call to your PCP, avoiding the appointment. worth a shot maybe...it's really nothing to call in an RX for an antibiotic unless of course the doc wants a culture.

in the meantime...lots of salt water gargles & LOADS OF GARLIC! i swear by garlic as an antibiotic.

Bear...yep, PIMLICO is a beautiful race track in Maryland. and 132 years ago there was a horse named "PREAKNESS" & long story short these fellows over here decided that particular stakes race would be called  Preakness there on in. we're rooting for STREET SENSE this afternoon.  i think he'll take all 3 jewels...i do! a triple crown winner...i know it!

i live right by the New York Bay (and unfortuantely the Newark Bay as well) & also a thing called the Kill van Kull.  so yeah...i'm stranded in a penninsula.  but this is nothing like the really beautiful coasts down south NJ.  Cape May is great...the Atlantic really comes alive the further down NJ you go. oh, about arthrotec...(that worked so well for my RA pain...but caused a major bleeding problem. darnit) nsaids may not be strong enough for very bad pain, have you tried Darvocet? or propoxephene i think the generic name is?) Darvcoet N 100 it's also called. it has a tylenol plus an opioid additive, but it's not as strong as morphine.  i was on that for quite a few years until it stopped working...but now i have dilaudid 4mg that i really think need to be increased too.

rainy rainy day again. ok...off to go snuggle.

p.s. doing better than yesterday, thank heavens.

Camama I do hope that you made it through the night without too much pain and that you can recover without recourse to the cash tilll doctor. I also agree with Erin about the power and the healng properties of garlic but you do of course have to weigh up the possibilities of everybody giving you the big bodyswerve whenever you get within kssing distance.

Yes, I have heard about the Atlantic coast and I promise myself that when I take early retirement in Dec 2008 [on health grounds] I am using part ofo my pension lump sum to spend a week or two in the MA/NE area and visit Nantucket and places like that. I have heard so much about the lpace I have to go see for myself.

camama, paracetamol is  a bog standard pain killer that you can but over the counter here and i t has many brand names the most common of which is Panadol. On the one hand it is an effective pain killer and is good for reducing temperature and it is also cheap as chips but on the other hand t can damage the liver fi taken to excess ie over the recommended dose and t s on dangerous drug touse for OD-ing!!!!!!!! One just needs to use t properly to get effective but not powerful pain relief.

I'm off to Manchester for three days this week - that's a city n the North West of England where you are born if you are not fortunate enough to  be born in Liverpool. We are a much maligned lot us scousers - the name given to Liverpudlians - called work shy, lazy, irish, all the ignorant epithets one can think of when all we are are perfectly balanced indviduals , a chipon both shoulders. More akin to New Yorkers [that's bound to get a few going there]. We like to think we are different that's alll. We are apparently famed for our sense of humour but anybody growing up there n the 50's 60's 70's adn 80's you needed a sense of humour to survive. The Beatles were the best thing to happen for LLiverpool at the time as it took away from the negative aspects for a while but they were by no means the best band to come out of the city - just had the best management and song writers. The city is a thriving lpace now withthree universities and students making up a fifth of the population and they have a tremendous efffect on the life of the cty. I really must do something with this 'i' key!!

When I visited New York some yyeyars ago I was struck with how similar in personality the people were to those from liverpool but that may not be a good thing in your views. I believe ny-ers have a reputation in the states but I may be wrong. WHAT DO WE KNOW HUH? Sorry bout that I didn't mean to shout.

I'm lsoing track of where you all come from and it would help me build a picture in my mind of you all as people if you could tell me where you are from I know that yalinda is upstate NY is that right? camama where you from? erin is NY state? Boo are you the Okie? Ducky which pond do you swim n? I live in a place where  have made no attempt to get to know anybody in the 14 years I have lived here. Although I ledt Liverpool when I was 23 [now 56] most of my 'close' friends are still there and I have other long standing friends who live all over the country and am fortunate enough to have a job that takes me around the country and enables me to see them when I visit their area. This thread is full of interesting people who I want to 'talk' to [or talk at you might also say] but i just appreciate and am thankful for you collective tolerance. I work on the equivalent of you Seniors Programme and so don't get to talk to many people of 'my' half generation. What a social inadequate eh?

SIgn off time but when your helath is in a good phase do tell me about your areas not nosey just interested.

Camamma, I'm hurtin' for ya.  Hope you get some relief soon.  That can get out of hand fairly quickly. 

Bear, I hear ya.  Universal challenge of the "sandwich generation", children and parents to care for.  As for me (Boo, The Okie), we too sold our house and bought a bigger one with accommodations for my mother after a stroke.  She had a sort of master suite (this house had 2) and it worked out out very well.  She opted however to move into the Cadillac of retirement communities after a while.  Teenagers are noisy and she did know that I could not continue to meet her ever changing needs.  I still get a big lump in my throat when I think of my mother and wonder if I did enough even though I know I did.  I have already told my daughters that they will most likely end up with the same legacy and I probably won't be as nice as my mother was (lol).  I always picture myself as "Maxine" on the Hallmark cards. 

Slow, sluggish day here.  Just don't even feel like getting dressed.  Oh and YES, Bear....you've probably got it right on the gumbo.  There's a lot of clay in the earth out here by the river.  That with manure, water and regular dirt makes what I call gumbo.  When hubby is out of town on rainy or snow covered days we have to hire someone to feed as my muscles will no longer allow me to walk through the stuff.  Boo
