In comes the bear from left field wherever that is. Hi mamaj I have had hip replacement and am awaiting another in a few months. I have also had a partial replacement of my knee which actually came first so I may not have had the same trouble as your hubby.
My exeperience - and I can only opine on this - is that for a couple of weeks after the op my wholoe leg hurt and it was explained that they have to bend your leg in unnatural positions - like way uparound the back of your neck type unnatural - to get the new joint in with a minimum of incision, it COULD be that and they might have been heavy handed in the bending and damaged a tendon or two.
Is there any swelling? Is there heat coming from the joint? How long ago did he have the op?
There may still be leakage of fluids from around the hip joint itself and there is only one direction this can seep - downwards. But, more than anything your hubby needs to speak to the orthopod who did the surgery.
The knee itself may be damaged as it has been bearing the bruunt of vthe leg support all the time the hip was bad and don't be surprised if the other hip comes out in sympathy in a few years time - cheeful little soul aren't I? All sorts of things can go wrong after major surgery that don't seem connected or shouldn't be connected. People like me can only offer personal experience TALKL to
your ORTHOPOD or is he not very approachable. Over here orthopods are not known for their eloquent bedside manner and they are viewed as one would view a mechanic - they take a look at your joints and do that sharp intake of breath through their teeth - iiiiiiissssss gonna cost you - kinda thingg. Don't tell mne I said that though as I have that rarity, a communicative one.
By the way if there is both heat and swelling get down to doc or whatever as that indicates infection n many cases. But I'm no doc.
Hope that helps.
