Just wondering if anyone has salivary/parotid gland issues and what they do to help ease the pain and swelling.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi finally. I had parotid gland issues a few years ago and was given an antibiotic plus a prednisone taper starting at 60 mg. Just recently I had swelling of my sublingual glands (under my tongue) which was caused by blockage and yes it's painful! My rheumy put me on a prescription med and I'd be happy to tell you what it is, but I'm currently having terrible memory problems. I do remember that it worked within two weeks. Finally I just remembered the drug for my blocked sublingual glands. It's pilocarpine.

my Rheumy (Yale graduate- NYC practice) has a really simple and great way to either stop the progressing of the parotid gland swelling or reduce it -

Advil
moist heating pad
sucking on a lemon

those 3 simple things have stopped the progression of swelling for me over the years AS WELL AS reduce the gland when it was the size of a golf ball -

If it was that simple as heat and lemon drops. I have constant problems with my parotid glands and stones. Swelling of my throat if I talk to much. I look like a frog sometimes. My issues started many years ago and only gotten worse for me. My doc said no reason to do surgery because stones will continue. I do pass stones once in a while with a lot off heat and rubbing of my parotid glands. But mostly it makes the swelling worse and sore.
