Hi Everyone. A few days ago several places under my tongue hurt. I think some of my sublingual glands are possibly blocked or infected. I just happen to be seeing my rheumy tomorrow, so I'll have him take a look. I was wondering, has this happened to any of you? Love, Butterflake

Just an update. Rheumy prescribed pilocarpine to make me salivate. He's hoping that the extra saliva will push what's blocking my salivary glands.

LOL. Of course, you'd already self-diagnosed (correctly) before seeing the Dr! Hope the meds help quickly!

Thanks Lynnwood. Yeah, sometimes I'm still a fairly decent diagnostician.

Hi Everyone. This is my latest update regarding my salivary glands. Rheumy also felt my neck under my jaw and said I had mild swelling of salivary nodes along with visual swelling under my tongue. Well, I've been taking the pilocarpine he prescribes 4 times a day and the nodes under my jaw are getting smaller. Also under my tongue is hurting less, so he obviously made the right call. Love, Butterflake

Hi Lil Gabby! I'm sorry I didn't see your reply sooner. I hope you've had some relief. Once my sublingual glands unblocked I felt so much better. My internist suggested I stop the pilocarpine now that my glands are cleared because 1) I take lots of meds and 2) pilocarpine has lots of side effects. So I'm saving it for when I need it. Are you feeling any better? Love, Butterflake

Donna, new to SS and looking through old forums that relate specifically to what I'm dealing with right now. Did your sublingual glands (mine is more of a unilateral swelling) feels knotty/kind of hard when they swelled/were blocked ? I know this is an old post so no pressure for a reply but am trying to find answers all over the place. Thanks ! H

Welcome to our forum HelmsHamilton. Because of Lupus and all my strong medications I have a poor memory, but I think my sublingual glands felt hard and I do remember that they were painful. I've been very ill and haven't kept up with the Sjogrens forum so it's quite a coincidence that I read your post. I was told to stop the pilocarpine as soon as the pain stopped because it has many side effects. Your primary care doc should be able to treat your glands. I hope you get relief soon. Love, Butterflake
