I haven't heard of Sjogren's getting worse after general anesthesia, but we haven't had many members who've had surgery, either.
Since Sjogren's is an auto-immune disease, I'd have to consider a more general question, Can my auto-immune disease be exacerbated by surgery? Most experts believe we should avoid surgery if at all possible; particularly they suggest we avoid elective surgery.
Not only do surgeries and procedures increase the stress on our bodies (and our psychics), but often our medications need to be suspended for a time before and after surgery. Changes in medication always has the risk of increasing inflammation and other symptoms.
I have heard of some patients getting additional medication (particularly prednisone) before surgery. I would make sure your rheumy is involved in the pre- and post- surgery planning to optimize results!
Best wishes,
