possible Sjogrens?

I was diagnosed with UCTD about 3 years ago. I was treated by a rheumy in Denver on diagnosis but since I have moved back to New Orleans, haven't been treated as the MDs here feel they need more signs in my bloodwork as opposed to how I feel. On diagnosis, my ANA was 1:320 speckled. Now, it's 1:80 homogenous and 1:180 speckled. No other antibodies have been positive. I've had positive CRP, sed rate, and muscle inflammation markers.

I have gone up and down as far as how I feel for the past couple of years. I feel I'm in some sort of flare now with the extreme fatigue and joint pains, but the joint pain isn't as bad as it was on diagnosis.

My eyes and mouth have been bothering me the most since the start of this last flare. My mouth is constantly dry and my eyes have been dry to the point of burning, cracking in the corners, and crusty in the mornings. They are irritated and red. My rheumy sent me to an ophthalmologist to test for Sjogrens. They did the test where they put the paper strips under your lids. Both times I have had this done, I have had reflexive tearing so the doctors have said the test was inaccurate. This doctor says I am missing the oily layer of tears in my eyes. She called it an autoimmune related meibomian gland dysfunction. She said she thinks it's Sjogrens but can't really diagnose it as that as of yet.
She says based on my history though, it's autoimmune related. Anyone else hear of this? She gave me OTC lubricant drops to try first and if that doesn't work to alleviate it she said possibly Restasis or plugs. She also told me to try eyelid scrubs.

I know nothing about all this. Anyone have any advice for me?
Any other tests that can be done to determine what is going on and whether it is Sjogrens?

Sjogren's can be very difficult to dx, even with a lip biopsy, sure wish it was easier to dx...biotene can help with mouth dryness, use it at night before bedtime.
Sounds like your eye doc is doing good for now, I use Blink, Genteal and Muro eye drops otc, plus restasis,(and eye plugs) warm/hot water compresses help. The
only procedure you've not had is a lip biopsy, but even with that it depends on the person reading it and it is more painful, do a google search on it to see if you really want to go thru that as in the early stages of Sjogren's it won't show up on a biopsy. My lip biopsy came back very inflammed but not inflammed enough and my RA doc said really and took a look at me and said I did have Sjogren's. Make sure that the eye drops you get are preservative free and dye free and do not use Visine at all. Make sure you get your eye checked every year now or sooner, the eye plugs are not that painful to get put in, but I'm used to them and just stay on top of keep your eye's good....

Systane are okay but you can also try other otc drops like Blink and GenTeal, maybe look into also adding those....and if you got the time try this, hard boil an egg in boiling water, then wrap the egg in a towel and place it on your eye, it stays warm and it soothes the eye....worth a try.
For me the Lip biopsy was very painful and I don't heal fast, for others it wasn't so bad, But I definitely will Not do it again ever.
