colon bladder fistula

Hi - I am a new member and wanted to introduce myself. I am trying to find some answers for my sister who has just been diagnosed with a fistula between her colon and bladder due to diverticulitis. She was on vacation in LV and ended up in an ER and then admitted for 5 days. They put in a catheter, started antibiotics and pain meds. All of which really didn't relieve the pain or symptoms. The surgeon mentioned a complicated surgery so my sister wanted to get home if she has to have that done. They released her yesterday and she is flying home today - it's a five hour flight to NY. During the night she noticed blood and stool in her urine and today she is in just as much pain as she was in the ER. THey released her on amoxocillin and tramadol and percaset (sp). She is wondering just how long before she starts feeling relief of the symptoms. She is really beside herself. I have a call into a colorectal surgeon here but he says he doesn't need to see her until her infection has "calmed down". What does that mean? Has anyone experienced this who can let us know if what she is going thru is common. about how long will it take before the antibiotics kick in and she starts to feel relief? Once she arrives home you may want to consider calling 911 or take her to the ER for another opinion and better meds. Try not to worry.
