Hello everyone,
I found this forum in need of help with a diagnosis i obtained 9 years ago that I feel has been wrong.
For many years i had trouble with my throat. I can swallow fine but after i swallow i found "residue" of food in the back of my throat and it has been uncomfortable and has made me choke at times or made me feel like gagging.
I had been to every Dr imaginable and had every test but it all came out "normal"
I then got sent to a Dr who started to think I may have an auto immune disease and did a blood test and a salivary gland biopsy (i think that's what it is?)
The biopsy came back as normal but the blood test came up with a positive SSA. Immediately the Dr said i had "Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder" and urged me onto taking medicines. I don't remember them all but I think the first one he wanted to put my on was Pilocarpine...but there was a stack of others he wanted to get me on.
He said the illness is chronic and without treatment i would surely die. I went home and took a long time to think about this. I was 21 at the time. I was happy and healthy apart from this darn issue with my throat. I looked up some of the side effects of the medicines and then made a decision that I wasn't going to take any medicine for this disease i have and let nature take it's course. I didn't have any symptoms and didn't want to take medicines just because the Dr stated I should. To be perfectly honest, I never believed I had what he said I did.
Since then 9 years has gone..i am now 30. Never had a single drug medicine put in my body and i still have no symptoms for which i am grateful for. This has caused me to think they have got my diagnosis wrong.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
Can you go 9 years without treatment and without symptoms?
