Hello! My eye doctor has me on this stuff, Muro 128, for my extremely dry eyes.
The way she explained it to me is that when "normal" people get dry eyes, filament collects on the surface of the eye and it's usually two little strands. She said normally she would numb my eye and scoop the filament out.
She told me my eyes have "tons" of the filament, said it would be impractical to use the regular method, and put me on these eyedrops. They sting when I put them in (thankfully she warned me about that), but they also feel fresh.

My question is, has anyone here ever taken this stuff and has it helped? Thank you.

I've never heard of it, and I've been moderating this Sjogren's forum since it was created. It isn't on the usual list of treatments for dry eyes.

I did just go read the description of Muro-128 and it says, "This product works by drawing fluid out of the cornea to reduce swelling." To me, drawing fluid OUT of the eye would be the opposite of what people with dry eyes need.

Additionally, the description doesn't say anything about "filaments" on the eyes. (Never, ever heard of that!)

I would suggest being cautious, and noting that the general OTC treatments for dry eyes are eye drops WITHOUT preservatives or medications in them, generally they say something about "lubricating" on the label.

Prescription treatment for dry eyes is usually Restasis® (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) or Lacrisert® (hydroxypropyl cellulose ophthalmic insert).

!?! Wow, thanks for telling me that, oh my gosh! I am a bit flabbergasted. I tried to look up what I could about Muro 128 and filament in the eyes and basically all I got was the the eye drops are for "corneal edema," something my doctor didn't mention.
Also, I read about "filamentary Keratitis," another thing she didn't mention.
I kind of thought others with dry eyes had heard of this before, I guess I was wrong!

I guess we probably need to keep in mind that you can have dry eyes WITHOUT it being Sjogren's, an auto-immune disease. And you can have Sjogren's WITHOUT having dry eyes.

Whatever your Dr is treating you for, it isn't the Sjogren's kind of dry eyes that we who frequent this forum are familiar with.

Thank you. I shouldn't have thought that people with Sjogren's might know what I was talking about (partly due to me not even knowing...).
