Finally got the courage to talk to my doctor

my name is christina and i finally got the courage to talk to my new doctor about how i have been feeling. right now i have been severely depressed but yet having states of mania but still feeling so sad at the same time. anyway she had me fill out this questionare and she thinks i am bipolar. so she put me on seroquel and abilify. i have been on them for two weeks now. i am supposed to call a psychiatrist so he can monitor my meds and figure out which bipolar i am. i haven't done it yet because well i just haven't. i am going to tomorrow though.

for the past couple of years i have often wondered if i am. my mom is bipolar. looking at my history and mood swings and such. i haven't told my hubby. i don't want to. he takes things so hard and always blames himself and this isn't his fault. it's just part of who i am. should i tell him? i don't know LOL.

anyway i have been married for 12 yrs (together for 15) and i have two beautiful children ages 11 and 6. i'm sure they are sick of me being so friggin snappy and irritable. i hope these meds work. i feel like i have been feeling a little better but still very irritable and rages still there.

I do not have Bi Polar hun but wanted to welcome you to our community
I am positive you will become an active member once you get to know everyone and them you ........

Its just my opinion here hun but I think you need to be honest with your partner so he can get to know how to support and help you along this journey

You have to make the hard decision
I am sure others will be around to give you their input which is no doubt alot better than mine .........

ty for the welcome and you are right i should tell him i just don't know how kwim? maybe i will wait till i see my psychiatrist so he or she can help me

Christina,

I also wanted to welcome you to the HealingWell Family. I am glad that you are getting the right treatments that you need.

I am in agreement with Lyn, you should not hide something like that from your husband, but it is still your call in the end. You could wait till you meet with the pdoc again then tell him, or ask him to go to the appointment with you. Just throwing out a few ideas. There are probably some members on board that have gone through similar experiences that can offer more suggestions.

I hope you are having a good holiday, and please do not hesitate to keep posting. Again, Welcome!

ty for the welcome and the ideas. i guess i am just scared to tell him. i mean i am sure he has to have some idea right? uggh i guess that is my biggest battle right now in my head.

Hi Christina:

Let me also welcome you to the board.

Does your husband know about your mother? Is your mother managing her bipolar in a healthy way? Could you use her as an example?

Or, could you bring it up as something that came up at your doc appointment -- you mentioned you'd been feeling blue and irritable and the doc had you take this questionnaire... so on.

He probably does have some idea, and he's probably worried about you. There's always that shock when we're first diagnosed, but then, there's always some hope that with a diagnosis, at least we can finally get the treatment we need to make ourselves hopefully feel better.

yes he knows about my mother, but see i haven't seen her in 13 yrs because she was not a very good mom growing up and became an alcoholic and drug addict. i do talk to her on yahoo and on the phone now though. she is managing her bp well now and has recently (finally) quit drinking.

he does know my moods and sometimes says i am acting insane with my rages. i am sure he knows i just don't know how to bring it up. i have another appt on the 7th and when i get back from that one i am gonna tell him. i have to i can't not tell him i just waited to long now so now i need to wait till next appt and then i can say exactly what you said.

thank you all for the support, i think it's hard telling loved ones. especially since i don't know what they think of me, kwim?

He must love you, if he married you, right? He must think you're amazing. but yes, I completely understand how hard this is. Every day I look at my husband and wonder why he puts up with me, but he does and when I ask him he tells me I'm stupid for even asking. He puts up with it because he loves me. And your husband will too. He already does. The only thing that will change is the label: and hopefully you'll be better able to manage those rages. But if you need support after you tell him, we're here for you.

yes he loves me and had put up with me all these years LOL. i am gonna tell him but i am gonna wait till after my next appt. thank you all so much for the support i really appreciate it. i guess i was just being silly lol
