I like to give blood to the red cross because i know its helping people.  Well last thursday i went to give blood but something happened.  I was told i could do this thing with plasma and i went for it.  The got it on the first prick and then they had to get some blood before it went into the plasma machine.  They had a hard time getting the blood.. my blood would flow then stop then flow then stop.  they moved the needle around over and over again then the blood flowed then stoped.  Anyways. They took the little pouch of blood they got from me and tried to get it into tubes.  Well for some reason it wouldnt go in. so they had to force it in.  Then the pouch broke and some blood went splat on the table where my arms was it wasnt then it was a mass. one of the nurses touch it and it wiggled.  They looked at each other and said i had jelly like blood. which i didnt understand.  They stoped it right there patched up my arm.   I dont know if this is normal or not.

sorry for it being so long i just needed to know.

Are you bipolar? Are you on bipolar medications?

Yes i am bi polar been all my life. I was weined off my meds so my husband and i can start a family. i was weined off over a month ago.

how is it going clueless without meds now,any withdrawal symptoms you have to deal with.Starting a family and working on it!!!

that sounds fun!!is that making you feel anxious or nervous ,are you ready for a new family member ?

its hard i have to admit. thank goodness my husband is patient with me.. some times i get so low i just cant do anything. and yes im nervous about the getting pregnat and having a baby because i wonder if i can. and if i can would my bi polar be passed to my child.. I hope not because i wouldnt want my future child to go through what ive been through.

clueless ,i know your fears .I think the chance of baby being bipolar is 50 % ,so don't worry .your hubby 's patience will keep your nerves calm so that's a help.keep writing.

Don't worry .Are you following a pcp plus psychologist to help you in this process.Are you taking pre-natal vitamins?i heard they are helpful if your diet is lacking somewhere.

im not pregnat yet. and if i become pregnat i will.. I have a question for any one who can answer. If you are taking lithum can you get pregnat takeing it?

Welcome to HW as well. That is really strange about your blood situation. I have the opposite problem, I'm a bleeder. So the last time I gave blood I bled too fast and was passed out a few times before I was back to normal.

The people at the Red Cross know a bit about blood, so unless they mentioned that you should have it checked I would not worry. But if it is any reassurance you should ask you doc to get some blood work done to make sure all is well.

That was the first time it ever happened im usally fast with giving blood. ty though.. now im not so worried about it. thanks again.

Just for the record, According to David Miklowitz, the author of Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide, the chance of passing on bipolar is actually only 8 %.

I agree with Serafena here. It is actually are lower than the statistics state. I think they tell you that just as a probability, but it is not a fact.
