Hi Ali, Interesting story, I can definately relate. I have had some experience in this area and know the signs to look for because this runs in my family (mothers side).
I feel sorry for what you and your family (and daughter) are going through. I, as a parent myself,(father) went through the same thing and it's very trying on the nerves and very frustrating as you are constantly trying to get the proper help for her.
This is a condition that is triggered by season change (amount of sunlight) usually shows up around Easter weekend and mid-October.
Some of the signs that you should watch for that is out of the "norm" are unusuall behaviour such as: depression.....suicidal thoughts........aggression, lack of respect, anger (towards the parents)and/or violence......rapid mood swings..........always talking religion(saw the Lord).........rapid cycling (always talking about things that arn't making any sense(won't shut up)).........Dual personality.......kind hearted (more than usuall).........urge to want to spend money on thigs she doesn't need or urge to spend other people's money.......poor sleeping habits.....poor eating habits......these are some of the signs to look for.
If she is showing more than one of these symptoms than she should be reffered to a Doctor.
I am the father of an 18 yr old son. Lucky for us he was diagnosed at an early age (12).
Very often they tend to get into trouble with the law, people think they are bad kids but in reality it is an undiagnosed medical problem that can be controlled with the proper medication and counselling.
I would say that if she is displaying more than one of these symptoms than it's POSSIBLE that she may be manic.
Good Luck
