Hello went to psch. Dr. today and she wants to put me on depakote.  I am presently on Lithum, abilify, lamictal, serquel.  she said i am not stable and they want to try a different avenue.  i want to know what others think about depakote, exsperiences.  should i try it?  thanks fast1.

Yes, I'm on it. I have seen a big improvement, but I still have my moments where I feel out of control and get mad for no reason. I have to talk to my doc about it. It's a good drug overall. I'm on the ER (extended release) tab. You'll have to get blood work done though to watch your liver, which I'm sure you know. I like it, but think we need to increase my dose or switch. You'll like it.

Thank you very much for the response. i was looking for that feed back to help make my disition. (spelling) i think i'll ask for the ER that you are on. i am on lithium so they have to take my blood for that so i guess i'll get both done in one shot. it can't hurt for me to try, since what i am on now is not working. thanks again and good luck with working with your doseage.

Yes, ask about the ER. Depakote is typically dosed at different times of the day and most often people don't remeber so the extended release lasts for a full 24 hours. I haven't had any side effects. Like I said, I've seen a totally different side of me-for the better. Just gotta battle depression now. Good luck to you!
