Do you think that Bipolar is genetic?

my MOther had all the symthoms  of Bipolar but not diagnosed. and then my grandaughter was diagnosed with Bipolar when she was 15 years of age. I think the Bipolar is genetic, what do you think?

Definately, yes. My doctor even says it can affect several family members. My brother is BP and so are some other relatives on my Mom's side. Mom and Dad are not BP though, nor were my grandparents.

Yep, i think so also. Heck its not surprising it wasnt diagonesed more but with the stigma attached to mental health issues its understandable.

My mother was bipolar too. Back then they called it manic depressive, plus she was paranoid schitzophrenic. and alcoholic. Plus abused medications. All of my sisters are alcoholic and I know one is bipolar and I am guessing my other two are by the way that they acted when they were alive. I have clinical depression, but bipolar meds (abilify) help me, so I feel like I have a little bit, but don't get the manic energy, usually get frustrated and angry. Though when I get angry I do get energy. But yes, I agree that it is genetic.

Yes, my Dad was bi-polar, brother severely depressed, and several relatives on my Dad's side of the family suffered from depression, bi-polar.

It sure is! My mother and my sister are both.  I know it came from my mothers side because just thinking back about my moms family oh yes.

It is genetic, if one parent has it there is up to 50% chance a child will have it. It is especially true if both parents have it, their children are more than 50% more like to have it.
