effects of meds? please answer

what are the signs one might see if a patient is misdiagnosed and given the wrong medicine?

am wondering because my a family member was quickly diagnosed with bipolar disorder and given luvox and lithium after one or two short visits with a psych doctor. we've never seen the manic side or even hypomanic side and think he might be on the wrong meds. don't want to go into it right now but am wondering how these two meds might present when administered to a person who is not bipolar.

what kinds of behaviors might one see and what symptoms might you be aware of that you've experienced or read about? thanks.

specs: 1200mgs of lithium and 200mgs of luvox once a day.

why no help here? i see there were many views.

posted this on the depression board but it was suggested that this may be a more appropriate forum for my question.

here's what i see:

affect is totally atypical for his personality

circular talking / evasive conversation

lack of empathy

strong sense of well being

some impulsiveness

anyone please?

I don't think this is a question that can be answered online, especially from a non-professional POV.

Keep in mind that Bipolars are very good at hiding symptoms!

just asking if anyone has experienced, seen or heard of this behavior or what might happen if a doc gave bipolar med to someone who isn't.

realize this isn't professional advice but there are a lot of people out there and maybe someone has something valuable to add here.

  You have  to understand that all of us here are bp. SO we cant really tell you what it would like to be misdiagnosed because we were diagnosed correctly. Do you see where i am coming from?

   I think you need to consult a real doctor about this since they would better understand the misdianogisos process and procedures.
