You know, i wanted to think about this before i answered.
The answer is yes, this is a life sentance. But so are many other illness.
You said you have identified what can trigger your problems. I understand where you are coming from and have also identified areas that have caused me problems. FOr me it was money and the ex. I finally had to get a divorce, and in the 6 months i have been out, i have only had 2 mania attacks. Money? I have had to work extra hard not to spend, and build up that nest egg. Still working on it, but like anything, its just going to have to be a work in progress.
It was very hard leaving my wife, problems though we had. But in the end it was the best thing i could have done. Have you looked at where your problems and triggers lie and taken steps to avoid or mitigate them? Example. Say you have a problem with drinking, then you have to take steps to not be around it. That may mean giving up friends who drink alot and pull you back in, that may mean you have to stop going to bars to listen to music. You sometimes have to make really crappy decisions, but in the end, they will help you deal better with this desease.
And remember, each day is a chance to learn more and possibly get better in dealing with this desease. And you may know what is best, but cant seem to find the power to make that change. Lord knows i stayed with my wife for 2 years, not listening to my body and mind with the damage she was doing.
Sorry, i tried my best here, i dont think i did a great job of making you feel better. SOrry, sometimes these questions are very difficult and hard to find the correct answers.
Good luck, we are here for you . Bill
