I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm especially glad you are still here...Awake

I just feel so dark lately. Like my one passion was having a nice little family. And now my son, whom I finally got back...is dead in a way...left the home and lost to drugs. I got to get with something creative...got to keep going because I do have a husband and a Mom and an older son far away in college that would be devastated without me. If only for them at this point, I have to pull out of this. And I know it will take time...pills don't work on me. Glad they work for others. Thanks for being straight with me and kind.

red - visit your local animal shelter. You can have a nice little family. And pets do wonders for us.

I love seeing animals in the wild. As for pets...never worked out too well for me. But I do know many who have loved their pets and have helped them through the tough times. But I have learned for me that pets are too much to handle...so I light candles, look at the beautiful sky, and enjoy not having too many responsibilities!

My dog is trained to tell me to feed her, let her outside, let her inside. When I am really bad off, my fiance feeds/waters here, and a neighbor takes her out to play with her.

My opinion is the only way to make pets work for us is to be honest with ourselves about our limitations, and then find creative and real solutions so that we can keep a pet responsibly when we aren't well.

My dog makes sure I take medications on time, every day. She harasses me if I stay up too late. She alerts me to the first signs of anxiety. She initiates play to interrupt depression. She gets me out of the house when I have social anxiety, agoraphobia, or panic. She does deep pressure therapy to help control panic.

She does so much for me that I am very motivated to find a way to keep her cared for when I am not well. And in return, she helps keep me well.

Red, I'm not trying to pressure you. You know what you are capable of, I don't. And I have much respect for someone who is real and can recognize if a pet is not for him at the moment! I want others to see the potential for bringing a pet into their lives.

Pet therapy works wonders for many however I like your idea of lighting candles as gives hope to the belief that there  is light at the end of the tunnel.

I spent 20 years trying to find meds to work for me. I never gave up. There are new drugs on the market all the time to treat bipolar. The options just keep on coming. Reactions are very scary and painful but you just have to have to keep the courage to treat this biological illness like you would any other biological illness. Wanting to give up trying to find the right med is understandable but it's not going to help you manage your illness at the end of the day. Hope you find an effective pharmaceutical treatment soon, Red. x
