Job interview

I am so nervous and excited! Tomorrow have a job interview about taking care of a man's Arabians (horses).

I always thought Arabians were kind of useless, they are not strong enough to yank a calf down or outrun a thoroughbred. But I'll be around horses again! I grew up on horseback, and have not ridden since we sold our place. I'll probably be sore.

Please permit me to tell you about the Arabian filly we had for our daughter.
That animal was beautiful: she was sensitive, loving, gentle (extraordinarily so); "Skittish," my husband called her. But she was a class act, and I believe the Arabian breed is a highly intelligent, people-loving horse. I would buy an Arabian every time if I were young enough now to be raising a horse for a child.

The person who saddle trained her for us tried to buy her from us telling us that she was the best animal she had ever tried to teach for saddle-riding.

We loved that little lady just as if she were one of the family. I watched her mother teach her on the farm how to behave. It was amazing, and her
daughter responded to everything her mother taught her. I'm telling you it was a joy to watch those two animals working together. The filly and our
cocker spaniel were great friends and raced each other around the fence line every chance they had.

You're right; they are not weight-bearing animals. They are meant for beauty and gentleness; that they are!

Well, I wasn't offered the job. I always considered my horses livestock, but I did get very attached to some of them.

This guy only in it as an investment, And right now the horse market sucks. So he is not spending the money for proper care. He feeds them well and they have plenty of water. But many of his horses had not been shod in quite a while. There were a few with open sores which he said he was going to pin fire. That is where the interview really fell apart. I told this idiot that he is an idiot, pin firing was a cruel and unnecessary treatment proven useless decades ago. Yes, I know its not illegal but that doesn't make it right.

He has his Arabians in pastures with a lot junk in them. No cases of hardware disease yet, but just a matter of time.

The rest of the interview was me trying to convince him to get out of the horse business.

Oh well.
