Yes, Forever7, one of the purposes of medication is to help you maintain self-awareness and the concomitant objective thinking about
your behavior which occurs when the chemistry is balanced. (And bipolar illness is a chemical imbalance of the brain, as well as an inflammatory condition.)
It's usually when medications have been stopped or diet changes for the worse have caused a chemical imbalance that the problem behavior begins.
Keep the chemistry balanced with meds; watch your diet and keep it more on the alkaline side than the acidic side (see Foods high in thiols.com), and change, if you wish, the salt you use to celtic salt which is beneficial (even more so than Himalayan salt so highly touted).
(An interesting fact I learned about celtic salt is that it reduces the
acidity of brain tissue cells which is very important for the health of
the whole body, as well as lowering, not raising, blood pressure.
Other facts are available if you search for them on the internet. )
Salt which is purchased as an American manufactured product has
potential injurious chemicals--aluminun for one--in it. And the trace minerals and other consituents (enzymes) have been killed in general over-the-counter salt purchased in this country.
You have to begin the search for improvement in your chemistry; the American diet won't benefit you in that way. (One significant factor is that bipolar illness is increasing in this country, and some researchers are blaming it on the "Western Diet".)
If you have an interest in helping yourself to remission, start with the diet, please. Tortoise has posted a thread on this at the beginning of the forum that offers a starting point for learning more.
Take care.
