Newbie to having Bipolar disorder

Hello, I was just diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. We are going to try some medicine. Still Processing everything she said tonight. I am married and have three grown sons.

Just wanted 2 welcome you 2 the Healingwell site. i was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 45, Bipolar 2, Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, OCD, Extreme Anxiety/Depression, Social anxiety, agoraphobic...i've been married 25 years, 7 kids, 4 grandkids.

i hope the medication that you are started on works for you, but if it doesn't don't give up it can take awhile to get the right mix of medication that works. What works for one may not work for another. Good luck and keep coming back.

Thank you for the welcome. I forgot to mention that I am 41 years old. I have been really depressed, anxious and worried alot lately.  seems I have no energy. I am also having trouble with the pinched nerves in my back. It hurts to sit too long even after having 4 injections.  which does not help.

I have tried Cymbalta which did not help, so I am on wellbutrin. dr is prescribing me another medicine but I don't remember what it is called. 

my get up and go has got up and left. lol

You are not alone, and it can get a whole lot better once you get diagnosed! For some of your other concerns, massage therapy might make a world of difference if its possible financially. : )

Congrats on your diagnosis, it means you're getting help! GOOD STUFF! Bpd usually becomes more pronounced in your 30's and thereafter. Unless there has been some trauma in your childhood like emotional / psychological abuse, divorce, death of a parent, etc. Then it can hit in adolescence, as it did with me. Problem was, my parents (a) wouldn't admit that there was a clinical problem here and (b) never got me help. So I never knew, just thought I was weird and crazy like everyone said. When I became an adult, at 30, I got sober (Bpd usually comes along with addiction, from medicating the obsessive thoughts) I was completely out of control. I checked myself in to a hospital for suicidal thoughts and was finally diagnosed: BPD, OCD, PMDD and SAD. Co-occuring disorders are VERY common among us.
You're on the right track to accept the need for medication and being positive about it. I fought it for almost two years until my therapist convinced me it was the right thing to do. Without my mood stabilizer, it's like - just raw emotion all the time at any level - god it's hell! But with my meds I only go through episodes for a few hours, and they're further between. They never stop completely, so don't have your heart set on that. Work with your psych til you find the right one or combination.
Not taking meds, I honestly believe, can lead a person to do things like what happend in CT last week with the kids. A person would have to be completely insane - well yeah, at times, yes, I am. If you've ever had an episode of rage you know how it feels. But with medication and treatment, it doesn't have to end in tragedy. Stay the course.

thank you for your replies and words of encouragement.

I think I have been battling this for years but had not made the commitment to seek answers as to why I think and act the way I have been. I have been on anxiety and or depression meds for years that my regular doctors gave me. Until recently, my nurse practitioner suggested that I see a psychiatrist and or a counselor to help me. at first I started with the counselor which has helped me with my anxiety. Months later I finally made the decision to see a  psychiatrist. After meeting twice she diagnosed me with being bipolar. she is also thinking I have general anxiety and/or post traumatic syndrome.  there was some abuse that I faced as a child and have blocked out most of my childhood.

This year I have had more suicidal thoughts (not so much right now), mania episodes, rage and flashbacks.  I have also been diagnosed with tmj, degenerative disc, arthritis of the spine and fibromyalgia. All while my husband was working in another state for eight months. He is home now for a few more weeks. I have stayed home cause my drs, my job and home are here.

 We are not alone: )
