Hi can any one tell me that memory problems are a symthom of bipolar.?

In my experience memory problems are either a side effect of too much/wrong medications or a physical issue with the brain, tumors, encephalitis, blood vessels pinched/busted etc. I would recommend seeing a neurologist for an evaluation because all the psychiatrists I've ever seen don't remember Anything from medical school. That's my $.02

Are you OK?

I have memory loss - both short term and long term, plus mild conceptual disorganization. The memory loss is severe/acute during anxiety and I also have state-induced recall (or lack of) with ultraradian cycling.

The medications I was on destroyed my memory, but I've been off them for 8 months and it has improved.

Hi Caren,

Memory loss can result from certain meds, especially benzopenes which are used for anxiety. I have problems with mine for those reasons.

I also find because I am unstable with this ultradian cycling, my mind is mostly unable to focus so I forget things due to those bp symptoms as well.

Be very careful with mixing OTC meds and prescription meds. I clear everything with my Doc before I take anything. I think the memory issues come with having BP. I had more trouble on some meds than others. i can't remeber who I saw a movie with but can remember the movie. Events without memory of who you were with can be scary at times, but I have grown to accept that I am a bit different and that helps a lot. Try keeping a journal. You can go back and read what you did and what happened. It is a life saver for me! My huband remebers everything and I just ask when I can can only remember bits and pieces. He is forever my hero!
