I have bipolar and not BPD. I've been working with two workbooks on my own, and also with a therapist. The books are absolutely terrific! They are by Matthew McKay, PsyD and Jeffrey C. Wood, PsyD. Titles are "The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Diary," where I keep track of the healing techniques I use each day; and "The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook." about 10 years ago I had a brief group session -- for a few months -- with a certified DBT therapist. I also tried another certified therapist before finding my present therapist. The two certified therapists were very COLD, lectur-ey people. I did not like their approach. It felt degrading to me, and I think we need warm people in our lives. My current therapist is at Jewish Family and Child Services. There are these in many US cities. However, it just so happens that he knows about DBT. That's not something Jewish FCS specializes in. But their therapists are warm and highly skilled. I've worked with a different therapist there for about 10 years. I'm just lucky to find both of them. I've been doing the diary daily since August, and it really helps me. Both books have text that explains how to practice DBT.
