i guess for me, and i suspect others to is to be aware of the combo effect of not just another or more dx of mental illness but other medical conditions also. i have too many going on. so i try to disseminate them and workout what can cause disruptions for my conditions. like pain and depression, like mania then proceeded by something else going on. it's a lot to think about
but it certainly helps you stay on the well-being wagon. to look after our mental health we need to look after all f our health. i am just speaking aloud. tell me to shut up!!!

I understand what you mean HT. I too have to remember to take care of my other health conditions in order for my bipolar symptoms to be stable. For example, I have insulin resistance so I have to cut down very much on the sweet stuff otherwise my sugar goes up and I will get very hyper. If I get too angry my blood pressure skyrockets and afterwards I will feel depressed. So yes I agree with you. We have to look after all of our health for our mental health to be stable. Take care mate!

I'm the other way around... Everything was becoming so overwhelming that I decided to let some of the issues go for the time being - bad back, neck, ankles - all of the musco-skelletal issues.

HT, you are right on as usual!
I let my physical health go, and just found out that I'm anemic (again.) It's a vicious cycle...anemia can CAUSE depression, confusion, etc...some of the same symptoms of BP II.
Also, last year I lost a good bit of my hair (I believe because of using Lamotrogine) finally had to give up and shave it, and totally underestimated how much this would effect my mental state. Needless to stay, the social phobia that was "under control" in still not better, as I hate to wear wigs when I leave the house.
This is an auto-immune disease (Alopecia Areata), and because of this and my pernicious amemia, last week I was diagnosed with ANOTHER auto-immune disease (still waiting for biopsy results.) Not a very nice one at all!
I truly feel that I am at the end of my rope. These things on top of a few root canals, dry socket, lower GI pain, etc. these last two years. Chronic pain definitely can cause despair.
What IS at the end of the rope, anyway? lol
