i was wondering if anyone had info on borderline personality disorder (bpd) it's hard to find any resources on line and i was looking to meet new people and share stories of recovery and hope ...thaks ...higgay

Hello and welcome to healing well . Okay, most Bipolars Ellie are BPD. They have the some of the same similarities as we do. I personally have not been dx, but think I could be. there's like no test for it, I think. ( Talk to Shannon on that one, although they might have a trait list or questionare, or behavioral study of the person). BPD, are highly unstable emotionally, wide range of mood swings in respnose to stressful events, they also have impulsive behaviors that can be self destructive, suicidal. Starts in adolescence and is believed to be herited. BPD's also can have psychotic episodes. Hmmmmmmm... yep that definately sems like me. I believe Shannon is. I wonder now how they distinguish that from Bipolar. Or I can see how misdx could happen. okay, there's a question for anyone, are people will Bipolar BPD as well? Or i could ask my doc, although I was just there yesterday, but back in 2 weeks. Lol Oh I am entirely too young to see him that much, I wonder if I can purchase stock in him.LOL That;s funny.  Again welcome to the boards, we are a great group of people and feel free to share some of you stories, if comfortable enough. I am Nickie , Bipolar I (rapid clycer) , have a beautiful daughter 3, and am a Surgical Technologist student. We have all kinds of knowledgeable people!!

bpd is a personality disorder that is not very common buit can be very disruptive to a persons health and well being making life very difficult. it involves having strong feelings of hopelessness and despair as well as drastic fluctuations in mood.  it is more common in females than males (i'm a male) and in the small community i live in their are very little resources to help me cope. anyway i hope that gives you some idea, write back if you wish i enjoy meeting new people ...higgay

hi kittycat27 my name is higgay and  i have bpd just so you know there are different criteria for bpd then for bipolar if you look in the diagnostic statistic manual4 (commonly referred to as the dsm-iv) there is a listing for bpd (it's number 301.83) and what symptoms need to be present for a dx to be made this is what docs use to dx us.  ...just thought you might like the info ...higgay

Thank you for the info. I do know of the DSM. I also have , in my deep depression had thoughts of suicide, and i know other people with Bp who also have those thoughts. When i first started here I did a thread on it. I think it is in more extreme than Bipolars. Is that what you are saying, because Bipolars can also be suicidal. Also i used to be a cutter when I was youger , can't remember the age. what "test" do they do for that. I have read about it before, I seem to hit that profile as well. Not that i want too, but some of our symptoms are like yours. How were you dx? At what age were you? I also know that BPD also , like us, have substance abuse issues as well. Is that your expereince ? I used to be bad with my drinking, checked myself in for it. I was severelt depressed and drank my problems in the bottle. i don't even recall like 2 yrs. Do they say as you get older your thoughts of suicide tend to diminish? I think I read that somewhere, but it's better to ask a person than to read case studies and what not. Happy posting! :-)

Yes, many many BPs come complete with BPD, among other nice personality disorders.  I think i have them all, lol. 

Isn't it funny the same acronym for both BiPolar Disorder and borderline personality disorder......  I wonder if that was on purpose.

All that you said was very typical of BPD.  Here is a test to take for it and many other personality disorders.  I was shocked at my results, too embarrased to say here. confused

And I will reiterate, it does NOT take the place of a professional eval with a doctor.

Three very highs two highs a couple of lows and the rest mod. I DO need a pdoc. I'm a freaking disaster! For real. That cant be that accurate. No wonder I don't have any friends. I scare people! I'm taking it again

Hey ellie , don't feel bad. I took it also and whoa! I had high in almost all , 2 very highs, and 2 moderate. Freakin yikes. I was like I need to see my pdoc as well. Well first I have to get one. I am not thrilled with the results I received from my doc at my last visit, so I am gonna find one and then call Tom Cruise and see if he wants to go. LOL   I had to it was just there.Anyways, hope you are feeling pretty good today, I was fine till this am. Ughh... long day at school.

hey kittycat  i was 22 when they finally gave me the diagnosis of bpd since then i have had many return trips to the emergency ward as well as stays at the local psychiatric ward. i do have problems with substance abuse and i'm trying very hard to stop the drinking but as of yet i haven't been having much luck . some days are better than others, this being a good day, and it's these good days that give me the strength to carry on .... higgay

Higgya, I can't talk long, but want to say, I think you have a point although it's probably not the right one. I agree though. Sometimes tis better to drink then cut! Although both are bad.I hvae done both and I am 28. I have committed myself as noted 2x, for drinking, and I still find days to be rough like today. Glad I don't have a bottle. I felt like today was my last. I hit downside today, and wanted to do bad things, again mom to the rescue. I feel bad her , and putting up with me. I amnot well, and sorry I can not be of any support today. I wished it away and .....it's still here, and I ..... just I dunno. take care, been there and feel right there with ya!

hi kitty sorry to hear that you're having a bad day believe me i know what it feels like. i agree with you on the point about not drinking, today makes day 7, it does tend to just make things worse. i'm glad i found this website as it really is an outlet to letting my feelings out. i journal alot but there's really nobody up here i can talk to (i've managed to piss off just about everybody i know).i wish there were some words of encouragement that i could offer you to make things better but we both know it's just run its course. it's okay to be depressed just as it is okay to be happy. anyway i'm on a public computer so i'm running out of time but take care and i'm thinking about you ......

I'm not bipolar, but I did have a long bout with depression. I took the test too. Once for now, and once for when I was deeply depressed. Oddly one that was moderate and stayed the same for both times, but all the rest changed dramatically.

I was wondering if someone who took the test would go back and take it again, this time anwering for some period in their life that wasn't depressed. I'm curious to see if one thing remains the same, like it did for me.

No reason, just an inquisitive mind.

Bev wish I could help ya out. I don't know ... if I am not depressed I am something else like hypo.. on the way to manic.. or something. It's always been that way. That is a good curiousity question. I myself have an inquisitive mind. I used to read the imponderables all the time. It was funny. Just useful knowledge those books are, but not alot of people know the answers, so it's a conversationpiece as well. Like why white castle hamburgers have holes in them.... see just weird stuff. lol Have a nice day.

White castle hamburgers have holes in them so they don't shrink or curl as much when they are grilled. Ooopps wasn't I supposed to have the answer!!! Bet you could stump me Nickie, you always read that stuff!!! You are so smart. I love it. I so hope you are feeling better, I was so worried yesterday. Love ya girl, Sandy
