Hello, My 13 year old daughter is acting out of the ordinary. The last 4 months she has been alternating between very very quiet and very very outgoing. To start with each episode lasted about two weeks the last two times have lasted a month each. When she is quiet she sleeps a lot and doesn,t talk at all. Eats very little. When she is active she doesn,t go to sleep till 11pm then wakes up 4pm . Most of the time she does art work painting and drawings lots and lots. The paintings are very abstract. When she eats she jams as much food in her mouth as she can. She talks constantly. She also wants to buy every thing she sees. The only medical issues she has is her heart rate is often very high when she stands up. She did a tilt table test and passed out but they said she didn't have pots. Her eye sight is always changing have to buy different glasses all the time. She can be very violent as well and tends to wreck the house when she doesn't get what she wants. The psych unit told us it was a pure behaviour problem and we should refine our parenting strategies. She is on Diazepam 2mm a day . This has stopped the really outrageous behaviour but she is still extremely active. If any body has seen any thing like this it would be great to know.

I too would suggest that you take your daughter to a psychiatrist for an evaluation and then they would be make to make a diagnosis. Once this is done, you can move forward with treatment-meds and therapy.

Has she done a thyroid test? Our thyroids can affect our moods. You can check this. We have a Thyroid forum so you can check it out too.

I hope that this will be figured out and your daughter will feel better.

We are taking her to another psychiatrist but where we live is very isolated 3000 km from any major city. Will check thyroid levels
