Hello. I'm 42 years old & was diagnosed Bipolar. I'm currently on 75 mg's of Lamictal & 25mg's of Lexapro for about a month. When will they start to kick in?

hi, lamictal is slow to start, but in combination i find the two together absolutely amazing. in combination with therapy and mindfulness. need to give the lamictal a chance, as stated in other threads your doc can do bloods to check levels to see if an increase can be made. lamictal is best devised, in the main, to be slowly increased until optimum levels have been achieved, however we all are different. the lamictal is controlling the mania, chaotic thoughts and agitation nicely, the lexapro has helped with the more depressive component and with the anxiety i live with; which is being managed well with the lexapro and coping skills. all the best.

Good luck with trying new meds. I know with me it took a lot of trial and error. I am very sensitive to the side effects. I let my husband read the side effects and I let him know how I'm feeling so that way I'm not just imagining them. Silly I know but it works. I really know when things are not working.

Hello djroach,
Welcome to the forum!
If you recently started the meds, it make take a little time to start working. If after a few days you don't feel any different, talk to your doc about it. Maybe it would need a dosage adjustment or different combination.
I hope this combination would work for you.

Isn't the therapeutic dose for lamictal 200 mgs. a day? I could be wrong but somewhere I heard that. Thats what I take coupled with geodon and Wellbutrin. I believe it takes 6 weeks for lamictal to kick in. In my opinion you're on great meds. Just takes some time and getting the dosages right.
