I checked out the stuff on You Tube for the Fisher Wallace stimulator. Cool. I guess it's like a home version trans-cranial thingy. Interesting theory about increasing serotonin instead of just inhibiting it's reuptake. Have you been able to try one?

Trans-cranial stimulation is one of those very controversial things. Most docs will probably ignore it until the science comes in.

For people like you and I, we don't get to play in the experimental realm - we just get the stuff where the science is settled.

How did you manage to get two psychiatrists? I can't even get one!

Yeah, it's depressing, but life is all about figuring out how to deal with the cards we're dealt. No use in getting fussed over things we can't have. I've grown to be content with life as it comes.

I hope you hang out and chat some more - it usually takes more than 2 days for people to not like me. ;-)

Meds work for me, thankfully, but you're right - there's may be a point in time that I can't count on them.

Meds for me have always been a way to calm me down enough to help me reframe my thinking. Cognitive behaviour therapy is kinda my goto survival mechanism. It's a cool discipline that's been around for a while. Basically it helps a person look objectively at their situation, and remove the fear and emotional bias.

And you're right, I could ALWAYS use some more education on depression - that's why I come to places like this. I like HealingWell, it's a great site to get and give compassion, and learn a bit at the same time.

Sorry if I offended you - it's always tough having conversations in this medium. Please know that I meant no disrespect.

Have you done a lot of studying about depression?

My education is in computer science, which makes me a nerd, I guess. CBT can be hit and miss - anecdotally it appears to work better on depression with comorbid anxiety. I'm lucky it works for me.

What's EMDR therapy?

What's your therapist say that leads you to believe you will never get better?

it is something using eye movement. is also for ptsd. doesnt work. it sucks
i dont have anxiety so cbt doest work for me
psychiatrist said i wont get better, just get worse as we age.

Medication is medication and you are right sometimes they stop working,that's why I hate for psych keeping on changing med or doses.

Don't lose hope .Keep on taking them on schedule and slowly you might see results.

I have that problem too - basically primary mental health care in Canada consists of "Here's a bunch of antidepressants; tell me if they work."

Teaches you how to be self-reliant really quickly.
