No, I don't think you're a loser. I think you're a person whose depression has left you with a really distorted self image. When you get over this hump, you're going to see yourself with a different perspective. When that happens, it's gonna be a great day. :)

I'll make you a deal: for the next little while, I'll believe enough for both of us. I've watched so many people in your position get better, and I know you will too.

Who knows? Maybe you will, maybe you won't. The only thing you can know for sure is that your chances are going to be far better when you get over your depression.

My weekends usually consist of sleeping in on Saturday, doing chores around the house, and chilling with a book and a cat.

I 'spose that's one way to go, but it wouldn't be my first choice. ;-)

Like I said, how about you leave the believing and the caring up to me for the next little while. You just work on feeling just the tiniest littlest bit better.

Yup, there's no doubt about that. In the next couple of days you should think about just sitting in a coffee shop and doing some people watching. It's kinda fun, and it doesn't force you to actually interact with people unless you want to.

I love people watching.

Now maybe I'm biased because I'm always looking for a reason to drink coffee. But, to be fair, people endlessly fascinate me.

Did you have any pastimes that you used to enjoy before you got sick?

TV is my friend too. Some old shows are like comfort food. I have one or two books like that too. Stuff I read when I need something comfortable an familiar.

It's tough finding stuff to do for free. Walking works for me some times.

Yeah, I work - I'm actually at work right now.

As far as being to elderly to work I can think of 6 or 7 people in my office that are your age or older. Don't sell yourself short.

Meh - that's just your depression talking. After you feel better we should revisit this conversation, I think you'll be amazed at how much better you feel about yourself.

I'll make you a bet: I bet you that when you get better you're going to find that your family will view you entirely differently than they do now. I will bet you a Starbucks coffee.

Self deprecation is hard to do. For instance, when people ask me to describe myself I say that I'm "fat like the Michelin Man, and twice as old as dirt." Then people laugh. But if I just say "I'm fat and old" then people get upset because they feel bad for me, and no one likes to feel bad.

And, on the other hand, they'll get over it. ;-)

I don't mind being fat and old. The way I look at it, I earned both attributes fairly and squarely.

I'm gonna go get a coffee. With extra cream. Cuz I don't care about calories. LOL!
