hi i have not posted for quite a while because i have not been well.i have bipolar 2 which is treatment ressitant no meds have worked for me i have tried many combinations over the years.i was diagnosed at 16 but had it since i was a child.i was wondering if anybody else has also got the same problem because i go to a bipolar support group but everybody i know there meds help a little at least.i cope badly at times in and out of hospital this sounds very depressing but i want to tell other people that there are not alone and if they want to talk i am here.

Hi Gaz, I too have had alot of issues with meds. Abilify was the first med I found that worked for me. Hopefully theres one out there or perhaps a combination you haven't tried yet that will work for you.

I was diagnosed almost 25 years ago, when depression was much less widely known, and they hadn't invented Prozac and a lot of other drugs yet. Since then, I've been treated with at least a dozen different types of meds, and while some have helped, nothing's fixed all the symptoms. Also, my doctor often has to adjust the dosage, because they sometimes become more or less effective over time.

I could be pessimistic, but I'm not. They're discovering new things about mood disorders and inventing new medications all the time. Also, even with all the meds I've taken, I still haven't tried *every* type yet, much less every combination. I'd encourage you to stick with it and have your doctor keep trying to find the right combination for you.

(I'm currently on Prozac, Effexor AND Wellbutrin.)

Hi Gaz,

I am new to this forum. I am 40 years old, have Bipolar II and am currently struggling with depression. I am taking Lamictal, Wellbutrin, Zoloft and Provigil. Things were going pretty well during the summer but now that the days are getting shorter (I live in Upstate New York and winter is upon us...) I am right down in the dumps. I have SAD, and I sit by a therapeutic full spectrum light every day. But I am still quite depressed. This is so frustrating. I dread the possibility of having to change meds again. It takes sooo long to find out if you have the right combination.

Recently I've been revisiting an old argument I've had with myself about whether my illness is just "all in my head" (no pun intended). Over the last 10 years I've been treated for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and one year ago was diagnosed BP II. I have been treated by 6 different pdocs over the years and have read a lot of published information about my diagnoses, but in the back of my mind I have always had the painful suspicion that my mental illness is my fault, I'm just lazy, a free-loader, irresponsible, etc. I know this is ridiculous but it is still in my head. I want to put it out there so if other folks are feeling this way, or have in the past, they might share their experience on it.

I've been reading some of the threads that have been posted and it is such a relief to know that there are others willing and able to share about this illness. Thanks for letting me ramble.

Troy - I truly appreciate your post and your careful consideration when choosing your words - just remember to stay within the rules. You offer lots of great support, so maybe finding another outlet for the conversation will be a better way to share your ideas.
