The H...so true. I have come to find that so many people are "afraid" of bipolars. They think we are all off our rockers. I'm very high functioning. In fact my newest psychiatrist and latest therapist both challenged me saying that they didn't think I was bipolar at all. I told them, well, I'm under control with the lithium, so you haven't seen the pendulum at all! However, even so, I'm very high functioning and mostly "normal."
Loquito, it really does depend on how well the person understands themselves. Like H says, if you're really paying attention to yourself over the course of treatment and learn to recognize your triggers and how to either avoid them or work through them, then the illness does not take so much control of your life.
I've found bipolars are usually pretty bipolar in their illnesses too. With that statement, I mean that they either really care about helping themselves, or they throw up their hands and say, I'm broken, I can't do it!
