Need advice(new to bipolar )

Hi U can get blood levels done for lamotrogine levels. 400mg per day is the top out, dependent on blood efficacy results. I was doing 400, but have dropped back. Get bloods done...you may need an increase

Lamotrogine works in the background and is more effective for some with an additional a.d.

What were your manic symptoms that the psychiatrists missed for all those office visits? The mind boggles.

It sounds like you're doing pretty well considering what you've been through. I've been through a lot, too, and when I look back at it, I wonder how I got through five minutes of it, much less many years.

But then there were good places, too, during those tough years, and sometimes I had to go through a tough time for only a short while during the day, and then I would be away from it for many hours of the day.

I think my brain helped me by blocking out many of the rough parts, then if it was over, I would be allowed to think how bad it was.

Is it rough right now? How are you getting through it? Are there some good times?

I also try to stay positive and try to believe that one day things will improve. That I can still try to do my part and do the best that I can. Are you depressed about any particular thing? Did you inherit that, either the depression or the bipolar?

My mother's mother had bipolar, so that's where it came from. Did you come from a positive family or a negative family. I came from a negative family, which is where I learned that. I stumped across something that said try to be positive when facing problem, and it seems to help.

You said you had mild manic times. healthyplace.com said about hypomania, not full blown, as:

• Grandiosity or inflated self-esteem
• Diminished need for sleep
• Pressured speech
• Racing thoughts or flight of ideas
• Clear evidence of distractibility
• Psychomotor (movement) agitation at home, at work, or sexually

Is that what you have during the hypomanic times?

Thanks to all of you for your feed Back. I do have some symtoms of hypomania.I have racing thoughts or flight of ideas , diminished need for sleep ( but I want and need to sleep ),it s the racing thoughts that hinder the sleep. Also ,psychomotor so, that is 3 out of 7. I do not know of other cases of bipolar in my family but it seems that once in awile my Father would shut everybody out for long periods .I never knew my father so it is hard to say what he had.Right now,I am feeling much better because , the Lamotrigine was increased to 200 mg. In the last two months I was increased from 100 mg to 200 mg and my thoughts are......will this be like the anti depression pills ,(that I should not have been taking ) and constanly be upping the dose or changing meds.

I have very little information about my father other that he would shut out people around him for long periods.When I am properly adjusted with the mood stabilizer I do not need a sleeping pill.Melatonin (i have tried it 3 times ), it has the reverse effect on me and that is ,that I will not sleep that night.My pharmacist told me that it does that with about 2 % of people .
