addrell and klonapin

Good Morning everyone,

 

My husband went to the doc yesterday was told that the doc's are going to stop perscribing addrell and klonapin he had heard something about it on the news and when he went to the doc they told him that the drugs are being over perscribed and they are going to stop using them has anyone else been told this?  My husband is really upset said these people just don't understand until you have these problems you just don't get it.

They're not going to quit prescribing them, that'd be ridiculous. People need benzos terribly bad. I don't mean that in an addiction sense, either (though they do too). There are so many people who can barely go outside without valium or Klonopin. They serve a vital purpose.

Adderall not being prescribed? Teachers will be striking everywhere. I'd truly feel sad for them.

Perhaps the peice was saying that they're asking doctors to prescribe them less? That'd certainly be a good idea. I'd agree with anyone who said that they're two massively overprescribed drugs.

Doctors have been known to prescribe Adderall or Ritalin to children to see if it calms them down, and invariably it does (very rarely does it produce entire stimulation), but this is an incredibly flawed trial. These drugs, while stimulants, are stimulants of the brain foremost. They are best known for produceing intense concentration. A study done in the 70s found that it didn't matter if a child (or adult) had AD/HD, both groups became more docile, compliant and focused. A few years later another was done on adult males. Same thing happened, only thing was that they were more likely to enjoy it.

Its only at the higher doseages that people exhibit what we'd expect from a stimulant. (ever wonder why methamphetamine makes a wonderful medication for ADD but a terrible street drug? its doseaging)
