Depakote and Klonopin?? My pretend doctor (NP) diagnosis this visit, anybody???

Because I had a problem with the Seroquel (which I might just try again at a lower dose).  The NP said because I can't sleep at all, no matter what I take.  I'm in a really high mania stage now, she was prescribing this combo. 

Rosie, I did call and ask about a real doctor or who she reports to but was told that it would be another 2 months to get an appt with one of them.  I can't wait that long for help thus, I'm trying to deal with this woman and researching websites for med interactions, side effects, treatment options?  I'm so tired of this but because my income is limited I have no choice right now.

That said, does anybody take these 2 meds together??

Well, the ladies have already come up trumphs with the suggestions so far. -- Don't forget also to visit manufacturers' web sites if your meds don't come with an info sheet (they always do in the UK but this doesn't seem to be common practice in the US): the web sites pretty much have to give exhaustive information because of legal implications if they don't. Also, if the website gives you the option of viewing patient information or professionals information (as Depakote does), always look at both sections. -- I think this division is rather condescending, personally: if you are a patient using the stuff, you ought to have as much detailed info available to you as possible!

Did you go ahead and make an appointment to see the real pdoc? I know it's going to be a couple of months, but I think the sooner you start this process the better. Or check with your insurance company for which pdocs are covered by your plan and try any listed to see if they could see you earlier. Also, try asking if you can be put on a cancellations list -- i.e. if anyone pulls out at the last minute they can get you into the appointment. This seems to be something that people on waiting lists in the past have had some success with.

Don't bin your NP in the meantime. She might be onto something now she's going for the Depakote (tried and tested bp med). I'd still harly call what she's come up with a regular combo though: as Judy's pointed out, Klonopin is a short-term med -- srisis management, rather than long-term treatment option.

Let's see what happens with the Depakote and then see what Ms NP comes up with. As I say, she may be onto something with this, and it would also make sense for her to start you on one med, wait for you to settle with it and then introduce other meds as necessary into the mix.
