  Hello everyone I missed you so

  I haven't been on in so long i forgot my log in....too long gone.

 I started college with five classes because aparently I was hyper and the counsilor said you look like you could handle five.  So I was like heck ya I can do it easy...one problem i have bad study habits that i refuse to let go.  So my grades slipped from doing good to horrible unmentionable grades. UGH.  So I dropped my psychology class cause apparently i didn't need that one but another one for my course thingy TT . TT I then felt bad dropping the class leaving my group with a project on their heads so i said i would still help them...but then my other classes want projects and yet again i put myself in a corner. I wish this semester would just end So I can start on my next with a some what clean start. I hate feeling dumb and overwhelmed but I feel like I waited to long to talk to my teachers and that they'll get mad at me  sad ....so basically I dug a hole to deep and can't climb out

I know how you feel.  I started out with 7 classes, and I do not know what I was thinking.  Right now I am taking 5 (1 audit) (2 pass/fail) and 2 regular.  Right before the begining of the semester, I had a manic episode, and during that time, nothing got done of course, then a few weeks later I had a mixed state.  I still feel like I am trying to recover from it all, and am currently failing 1 and maybe another one soon.  I just can't do the work and stress about it all the time.  It's not that I don't want to do the work, but I just can't and the days have been going by fast.  I just wanted to let you know you are not alone.  Hang in there, you will be fine in the end.  :-)

tell your lecturers about what's going on with you.  many (not all) will cut you some slack.  i've given "delayed" grades to a few students with this kind of problem myself - long before i found out about my own ailment.

 It helped a lot to know that I wasn't the only one having trouble.  I also think that's what happen to me too...I just wasn't sure if it was because of that or if I was just not concentrating hard enough, so confusing.  I'm hanging in there and trying my best to keep up without stressing to much. :-)

 I have two classes today and will talk with the teachers.  One of the teacher is nice, like a grandpa :-)   so he's easier to talk to.  My english teacher on the other hand intimidates me but he seems like he wants his students to succeed.

Thanks very much sorry about the rant it was kinda of stressing me out eyes

Ok, so I'm (sadly lol!) rarely intimidating, but when I do get cross with students it's because I want them to do as well as they can, and when I give support to students it's for exactly the same reason. Which is as much as to say: my main priority is having my students do the best they can -- if that means pushing more, I'll do it; if that means supporting more, I'll do it. If he's like me, he'll be happy to help if it means you do your best by yourself.

 GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!!!!!!!   :-)   

With the help everyone gave I was able to get my courage up, take a deep breath in and walked into my teachers offices...I explained what has been going on and that I was a little scared to approach them before.  The fear was for nothing they were very nice and considerate.  A great weight has been lifted off my shoulders and it feels so darn good. Your right Rosie my english teacher asked if everything was all right and he seemed to care.  I was so scared I was shaking even when I left the room I had a big smile on my face lol and  I was able to get the papers I needed and my Govt teacher is very very very kind.  We have a test next tues. so he told me to focus on that one and take the next one after thanksgiving break.  :D  I was ready to hear about studying for two big test back to back but now I can really focus on one thing at a time....I Feel in control again.

I hope everyone else day goes great too.

Hi Kim

Wonderful to hear your news! I am proud of you! You were able to access the problem, find a solution, then execute your plan! There are many college students that would not be capable of that.

Now, since I have the floor, here is my college story. I scored very well on my ACT's so I decided I must be really smart. So I took 21 hours my first semester. Then I found out there was a lot of beer and girls at college. Whoops! I got a C in each class for a blazing GPA of 2.0. Took me forever to get that up. Also lost my scholarship because I had to maitain a 3.0 for that gig. Oh well, got one semester paid for.

I could go on and on about college stories. Maybe I'll start a thread on them.

Once again, congrats!

Wow 21 hours for a first semester...that's a lot, you must of scored really high on the ACT. Thanks for sharing your experience...everyone messes up now and again I find it wierd that we always think its only us that are screwing up...or is that just me? Well I found college to be very different than high school and I'm learning from my mistakes just wish there was a time machine so I wouldn't have to live with my mistakes hehehe = ^ . ^ =

Yup there are some human beings left out there warren...i'm a little suprised I forgot that hehehe

Hey-
I completely know what you mean by overstacking college credit loads. I've done this before during manic episodes when registering, and the results can be disasterous. One semester, I took Calc 4, A 3000 level engineering physics course, Geophysics I, and two other difficult geology classes. When doing anything in life, I have a tendency to try and complete everything despite the odds. However, this time I was just in way over my head and entering a prolonged period of depression. Unfortunately, at my extremely large university, it was almost impossible to gain much sympathy from my professors. Sometimes, its really important to reassess what you can handle early in the semester before you can no longer drop courses or get any of your money returned. This instance was the only time I ever dropped any college classes, but I think my GPA would have been destroyed that semester.

Hope that everything goes well for you and its great you were able to talk to your professors. Often, they will be receptive to understanding such conditions if you explain the situation right when problems start before you need additional time for specific assignments and exams.

i went to several universities as an undrergrad.  my first semister after changing i toof 19 semester hours - the max they would let me take.  some of my credits didn't transfer and i wanted to catch up.  at any rate, i went into overdrive and ended the semister with a 3.8 average!  never beat that in the rest of my undergrad career.  maybe there are some advantages to this disease?  that was also over 40 yrs ago.  where did all of my energy go?  sigh.
