how do you get help for someone who is manic ?

Torn-a-part,

There's really just a couple options:

Bipolar's need their meds, and if your wife isn't willing to take her meds on her own, there is sadly nothing you can do. If she is an immediate danger to herself or others, you can call 911. Other than that, counsel and support her into seeing her doc (which I've seen from your posts isn't really an option) and taking her meds (ditto). You can't have someone "committed." Only an emergency doctor can do that.

If you're worried about your son, go through the proper legal channels to make sure he's seeing his doc and getting his meds. That's about it.

I'm sorry. You must be very worried. Stay strong.

no i am not bi polar,just frustrated over feeling helpless,my wife and step-son are however bi polar,she was seen by our family physician a week or so ago,he has since told me that she was very erratic during that visit and he felt she had stopped her meds at that time,since then its been down hill,

im not there with them,i asked her about some of the things she was doing[chatting on date site],and she got really defensive and i knew she was not being truthful to me so i left,i later got served with a restraining order,its never been to this point,i should have gotten her treatment way before i did

Torn-a-part,

Don't take all the blame, you didn't know any better. You learned with time. With the restraining order, there isn't much you can do without taking legal actions yourself. Especially if she is not a threat to herself or others.

I'm afraid you have may have to watch how this one plays out from the sidelines, torn, until she specifically asks for your help.
