Hello. I have been diagnosed with Bi-Polar II and I'm on several different medications. I guess some people call it a cocktail of medications. Is this a normal procedure? I'm on Wellbutrin, Trileptal, and Cymbalta. To help me sleep I'm taking Ambien. Thanks! confused

Welcome to Healingwell, glad you found us.

It's not only normal to be on a combo of meds when you're bipolar, it's almost required. There are several different aspects of the disorder to treat, and no one drug can treat them all. I'm on 5 right now. I'm not crazy about it, but if it makes me feel better, I do what it takes to feel like myself again. I imagine others will tell you similar things.

i can just second serofina.  and the drugs often change over time.  after almost 6 yrs on lithium, my pdoc just took me off  of it and put me on tow other ones.  so far, i'm (thank god!!) i'm doing pretty well on the new meds.  but you never know.

You are normally abnormal.

I used to be on Depakote but I gained so much weight. I'm now on Trileptal and it seems to be working pretty good. Recently I've been having a lot of food cravings and I'm starting to gain weight again. I was wondering what other people take for Bi-Polar II. Also, I've been having some weird reactions to Ambien. Can anyone suggest a different medication to help you sleep? I've also got migranes and have wondered about trying Topamax? Anyone have experience with it? I know...lots of questions.

I take Topamax for BpII. It does have the benefit of curbing cravings for a while (they come back, I've found.) Otherwise I like it. Seroquel for sleep? Atavan maybe?
