Just want to intro myself. I was diagnosed in 2006 with bipolar, however, I have had it since my teens. I was being treated for depression since 1995 and put on prozac which helped, but oh lordy it made the mania worse. It wasnt until my regular Family Doc got to know me and ALL my DRAMA (putting it mildly) that she suggested I may be Bipolar and refered me to a great PDoc. I was started on lamictal and cymbalta which have literally saved my life. The hard part is that I am 48 and have really ruined my life and relationships and I have a hard time forgiving myself (even tho I wasnt in control - the disease was). I am so glad to feel calm with no racing thoughts - yes I do still cycle through the highs and lows, BUT nothing like before. I am also an alcoholic is an extremely lethal combination with bipolar. Anyone else relate?? I'll post more - take care

Hi chloefl,
Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board.
I'm so glad you finally were properly diagnosed, and that has made a positive impact on your life. You are most definitely not alone. We all relate here, so feel free to tell us as much as you like.
Glad to have you,

Yes, I can relate.
Not getting my bi-polar condition under control ruined my career. It causes some regret. On the other hand, this is the first time since my teens that I have ever known happiness.
It didn't last. I was diagnosed with cancer once the bi-polar had been relieved.
When people ask me how I am taking this so well (I do have my sad days, though) I tell them with this disease, at least I can die happy.
Happy is such a relief. Don't look back. Just enjoy the new peace you have found.

That is a remarkably good attitude you have there, OBB. I really wish you well with the cancer. Keep us up to date on how that's going. I know we're not the PC board, but think of me as a concerned citizen.
