Well i may not be hard core buddhist, here is what i practice.
Acceptance: LIfe will be what it will be, to fight against it is as useless as yelling at the rain.
Forgiveness: of both others and myself, i try to carry no hate or hurt in my heart.
Joy: Find joy in as many things as you can every day. Be it a good meal, a hike, a bike ride, a kiss, time with a loved one, what ever it is, find the joy in it. Enjoy each experience like it is your last.
Prepare: Plan as much as you need, but then let go and let life take you the rest of the way. The trick is knowing when to be flexiable and when to be stiff.
SImplify: I have gotten rid of alot of bills. I reread books, i rewatch movies. Having simplified my life financially is paying huge dividends.
Innovate: I have taken the parts of Buddism and other teachings and made them my own. Even Buddha felt that truth could be found along more than one path.
Thats most of my life in a nut shell. I live as uncomplicated as possible. Being this simplistic can be missinterpeted often by many people who cant understand living and striving for less. It seems so unamerican. But the old saying comes thru, "Do i own my possessions, or do my possessions own me?"
My big puppy teaches me every day the joys to be found in living in the moment as much as possible. Notice i say as much as possible. We still have to plan ahead for things, but aside from what absolutly needs to be planned for, living in the now, enjoying what you have, has brought me great peace and inner joy.
