I did something for me

I must be the most frugal, non-impulsive bipolar on the planet. I'm not exactly rolling in dough and never ever treat myself. My mother (who I don't even have contact with) is dead against this activity I partook in today. I've been brainwashed against it my entire life. I've been thinking about doing this thing, for me, for the past three years... and today I plucked up the courage to do it. At 40 years of age....................
I got my ears pierced - and it feels strangely liberating. I actually feel quite girly and even a little bit pretty, having sparkling little things each side of my face.
Yeah, I know it's just a tiny hole in each ear... but it means more than that to me. This has got to do with self-validation, making a statement, asserting who I am and what I like... it is somehow wrapped up in identity and doing something for me - one of the few times in my life, and I'm proud of me... .

I feel like I grew up a little today.

(and no, this isn't an invitation for any of my friends here who may be slightly elevated to go on a spending spree or engage in rash behaviours!... quite the opposite lol).

Ive always thought its the little things in life that count.  So happy to hear you did something just for you!!  It truly is liberating.  Anything one can do to make yourself feel good about you..i will always applaud!  And i agree with aqua..GO and buy yourself some pretty earrings!  I am never without earrings     They make me feel pretty

hahahahaaaaa!  I AM a girl and I shave my face ahh...  once a month.  Something about having a baby changed me and now I get a little fuzzy beard and icky moustache.

Sorry Gem, but getting second holes done isn't on my bucket list but I will bug YOU to get more piercings if you like hahahahaha
I'll see how I go tomorrow re the pearl earrings Momof3 - I've got used to my sparkling ones, so might get wild and get some dangly ones that I can wear after the healing period has finished (rather than duplicate studs???). I'm delighted with how it is continuing to buoy my spirits. Such a little thing is going such a long way! Talk about value for money... I must have really needed that self-validation and having my appearance representing what is inside of me, my likes and dislikes, a little bit more.
Has anyone else done something else special, just for them lately?

I bought myself some dangly earrings today after group. I can't wear them for another 5 weeks but I have them to look forward to :). I also bought myself some black jelly beans and ate the whole lot in one afternoon! Comfort food city. My flatmate is leaving tomorrow and he took me out to dinner, which was lovely of him. I'm going to have to chain him to the coffee table or something.... I've been very lucky to have such a great flatmate!

hahah! I got my ears pierced last night. Pretty sparkly. :) I realized the only reason I didn't have it done already was fear of anxiety before it was done. I talked to the lay for a while, she was really professional and friendly. I watched someone have it done. The lady showed me the piercing tool thingy and how it works. I picked out earrings I liked and decided to go for it. :) I was surprised how quick and nearly painless it was. Not as bad as a blood draw. :)

I think I'm allergic to my earrings. Either that or I got a spot of poison ivy. I had an allergic reaction to nickle when I was a kid. I got white gold earrings which has "trace amounts" of nickle in them. I was going to get titanium or sterling silver posts but I didn't like them.

Ah well. I took some loratidine. I think I can swap out posts quick maybe if it is allergy.

I lol when I read you had your ears pierced! ...and then was sad to see that you are having probs with them. I went for the "sensitive" earrings even thought they weren't necessarily the most sexy and I've been religious with the antiseptic spray. I hope that helps you in your journey of sore earlobes. Thanks for giving me a laugh... I almost got as much out of you getting your ears pierced as I did getting them done myself. Hugs to you.

I went to get some of those little plastic things to put on th earrings.  I COULD NOT get them back in.  Took about  and hour and a half and I think I put a new hole in on of my ears.

They are back in and I'm hoping I don't have any more issues.
