Hi im bipolar 1 and suffer from ptsd and gad my p doc keeps raising the mood stabilizer every two weeks ive just reached 200mg with seraquel50 mg and alprazolam .5 as needed the thing is he wants to get me off slprazolam and insists that the lamotrigine will take care of my anxiety im not so sure anyone out there have any good things to say regarding lamotrigine and anxiety??ive gotten used to it as clonazepam was disgusting and robbed me of my personality...i keep fairly well on what im taking at the moment why cant i just stick to what works?????

Molly,

It sounds like your Dr. wants you off of the benzodiazipine medication.  I would discuss it with your Dr. and let him know how you feel.

Hello, mollyWoppit68, and welcome to the Bipolar Forum,

Lamotrigine (or Lamictal) is one of the latest medications for treatment of bipolar, type II illness, and it is excellent. Anxiety virtually disappears while taking that medication, and it has few side effects for those who are able to take it. I think you will like it.

Hi its genetic im starting to feel a bit better ive only been on the higher dose for 3days as usual i worry it wont work im terrified of stopping the alpraz untill im sure i think my p dr knows this so im not seeing him for review for a month then we will look at it again.im having real bad trouble sleeping i seem to wake up at midnight or 4am if i take it later i hope this wears off. Thanks for your advice

Skitt i said i wouldnt even entertain the idea of stopping alpraz my husband is a tetraplegic and has had really bad medical probs lately which as his sole carer i have to deal with quickly this causes me alot of stress and anxiety im afraid of loosing him at times...he isnt forcing the issue but i know he means well
