Help! Im in love with a bi-polar man!!!!

I just recently met a guy a few months ago. He turned out to be just the man I was looking for. He is VERY attractive, hardworking, and he has good morals. I have had boyfriends in the past put none like him. It was like love at first sight. Sometimes he treats me like a woman should be treated like Mr. Hyde and other times he is like Dr.Jeckyl  The only thing that is taking me away from him is bi-polar! mad At first I didnt know what was wrong with him. On our first date, he accused me of looking at his best friend. He got so mad he didnt say anything for a while but he explained to me that he was with a girl for seven years and he proposed to her and she dumped him. I felt his pain because I too have been hurt before.IT turned out it was more than an hurtful breakup. Bi-polar was taking its course. He took me to meet his family within a weeks time of us talking an no one told me of his conditions. They just asked things like how long are u going to put up with him? I didnt understand it until I had to learn on my on the hard way. He attacked me one day because I wanted to go to and informal social event with my girl-friend. I have never been hit by a man before so I didnt know what to do, and I know that I was raised around a man hitting my mother and I wasnt going to go through it either. I care so much for him. When he is in his stable mind we are always having fun, the perfect man. I talked to his mother after the incident and she told me that he had bi-polar and he had stop taking his medicine. She said that the medicine helped him alot but he feels that taking the pills make him feel like he is crazy. Im a strong believer in GOD and I feel bi-polar is just an act that the devil is putting out. I pray for him constantly but I feel that he will need more thatn prayer. I took him to church with me too and it helped for a minute but he was right back to himself again.I dont know what to do. I feel that the perfect man is slipping right through my hands to to this disease what do I do?

Hello, Boo here. I post a lot on the arthritis thread, but this one caught my eye. I am also married to a bi-polar man. He is on meds and has been for about 5 years. I couldn't live here if he weren't. He still has his highs and lows but the medication keeps them from being as extreme. We have great days and some rough ones as well. However, there is NEVER a good reason to be hit. Don't kid yourself into thinking that just because he's sick it's ok to take it out on you. He's got to decide whether on not to take meds for this. You can't do it. This is a very serious disease. I lost my house, cars, land, and almost lost our business, and don't get me started on the affairs. There were violent times and knowing what I know now, if I were abused physically, I'd leave. PLEASE get some help for yourself no matter what he does. And please keep us posted. We care. Boo

i am in same situation as you,he doesnt like me going out at all??period.he gets bickering and doubts me which bothers me as i am the one who always makes him secure and contantly reassures him of my devotion.he when mad acts like yr guy for sure --tells me going to hit me , but then regretted saying so,creates drama in social situations which is very embrassing for me (i dont like that) but i dont know how to deal with all this crap.his behavior makes me wonder at times if he is the one i wanna spend my life with or i am wasting my time and love on someone who is not worth it .but i guess i love him too much and my heart wont listen to mind.
keep us posted and try to be brave .think 2ce before u commit to this man if u can deal with mental anguish all time or no.for me its too late now.

Welcome to healingwell. Please take some time to read through some of the past posts. You will find many on the same topic that you are inquiring about. If you'd like to reply to any of them be sure to first check the date on the post that it was written. If it is an old post, please start one of your own.

One thing I want to mention about what you said: " Im a strong believer in GOD and I feel bi-polar is just an act that the devil is putting out."  Bipolar disorder is a chemical imbalance in the brain.  Please take the time to google bipolar disorder and learn the facts about this illness and then you will have knowledge about it.

I'm sure there will be many others to chime in and offer you their suggestions about the issues that you are concerned about.
