Hello, Blarky, and welcome to the Bipolar Forum.
The hospital is the place to be when an illness is serious, and some forms of mental illness are serious and need hospital treatment to correct a chemical imbalance or other problems that a patient may have. In that respect, they are the best places one can be when they are needed.
Your visit may be for only 24 to 48 hours in many cases, and you'll get the best nursing and psychiatric assistance that is individualized to meet your needs. If you need to go, try to enjoy the food (if it's good!) and rest--most importantly, you need to rest while you're there.
Take care and have no fear. ("Nothing is to be feared; it is only to be understood"; a statement made by Madame Marie Curie, who, along with her husband, discovered radium.)
