Hello, Stmaru, and welcome to the Bipolar Forum.
I've been told by a psychiatrist that mania is a reaction to depression.
From your post it would seem that you are taking medications, but that they haven't had time to kick in. As soon as they do, you will know it, and you will feel much, much better.
In the meantime, try to take your wallet out of your purse so that you don't spend anything when you go out, or at least make a list of the vital things you need, and don't permit yourself to buy another thing.
One person on the forum told us about someone who put her credit card in water and then put it in the freezer! (So that if she wanted to buy something she had to wait for the card to thaw; by that time, she had lost interest in buying it!) That struck me as funny, but one solution for excessive spending.
Watch your diet. Don't drink sodas, use alcohol, or anything with caffeine in it. Those things make the illness worse.
You'll be fine,Starmu, just be patient and give yourself time to let the medications get the chemistry of your brain stabilized. Talk to your doctor about the spending and your feelings regarding your physical health. He/she needs to know what you're going through temporarily so that you have some professional advice about how to manage your life.
I think it's great to be independent; you don't have to answer to anyone else about how you want to manage things. And you have the personal enjoyment of being able to do just what you know is best for your health and your well-being. Try to remember that, and keep looking for the medications to kick in.
You'll be good in another week or so.
Take care of yourself.
