As a member of the public, I witnessed the most awful animal cruelty in my local animal shelter. Figuring it was due to lack of funding, I approached them about further funding possibilities. They said that they would not accept the money for that site because they did not own the land; they were just paid to manage it.
In March, the funding body suspended their contract. They made a lot of threats, and now these dreadful perpetrators of animal cruelty are coming back to manage our local pound and rehoming centre. It's so hard to see such cruelty and not be able to do anything to stop it. I still have nightmares about the atrocities I stumbled across when I merely went to cuddle a cat. I managed to get one cat out and it was on intensive care before it was returned to the perpetrators and destroyed. I find cruelty so hard to come to terms with; and I find it so hard when watchdog organisations drop the ball. It reminds me of my own childhood. Isolated, abused, praying for protection, that never came.
