Yay! I've had 2 and 1/2 years sober 4 times in a row with relapses in between. This last time I had 9 months and relapsed for ten days...now I have thirty days.
I have a history of self - medicating my bipolar with alcohol and sometimes adding drugs. Though I don't have continuous sobriety it's better than no sobriety at all.
Relapse happens long before the actual taking of the drink or drug. Here are some relapse warning signs.
1. Hanging around old using or drinking friends
2. Having the alcohol or substance in your home
3. Stress
4. Difficulty in relationships/ breakups/divorce
5. Moving
6. Dishonesty
7. Isolating from others
8. Financial hardship
9. Stop attending support groups/miss dr apts. etc
10. Death of a loved one
There are more but I don't remember them. If anyone has had a problem with relapse and can add to this list please add your own "relapse trigger."

Hello Christian,
Thank you for sharing this with us
.
Congratulations on being sober
! I'm glad you never gave up whenever you have a relapse. You get right up again, and continue moving forward positively. Way to go Christian!
